How lighting affects your film- Blog Investigation and Work Log

Image
Why lighting in film is important: -Because it generates a visual mood, ambiance, and feeling of meaning for the audience, lighting is essential in film. Every stage of the cinematic process affects the lighting arrangement, whether it's outfitting a film set or blocking performers. The audience is directed where to focus by the lighting. The lighting configuration directs the viewer's attention to a specific performer, prop, or scene element. The psychology/emotions of characters is reflected in the lighting. To match a character's emotions, the amount, size, color, and harshness of light surrounding them can be modified.  The film's genre is defined and supported by the lighting. The most effective tool for conveying mood is lighting. Film noir, for example, is noted for its distinctive lighting style, which features striking contrasts between light and dark, highly patterned shadows, and uncommon framing and composition choices. Direction of lights -  The emotions of...

Blockbuster vs Indie Movies- Investigation Blog Post 10/24

Image
Movies have always been a big part of my life since I was a kid. Granted, as a child, all I wanted was pure enjoyment. I still do it now and then. When I was in high school, though, I began to appreciate movies as an art form rather than as two-hour entertainment. Since then, I've also noticed how I've begun to go toward indies rather than the blockbusters I used to watch. Blockbusters - Films with enormous budgets that frequently star well-known stars and are distributed by major studios (Warner Brothers, Marvel, Fox, etc.). Superhero films, the Star Wars franchise, James Bond films, and other films of this type are sometimes referred to as "superhero movies." It's the big-budget action films.  Independent Films - Films that usually are low-budget, self-financed films that frequently cast lesser-known performers (though this isn't always the case) and cater to a specific audience. Also, they're made outside of the huge studio structure, and they're al...

Incorporate Music into Film Cinematically- Investigation Blog Post 10/17

Image
For this blog post, I investigated different ways on how to best incorporate music into my film. I always try and find the best songs that fit my theme and even have the same pace as my film. Also, I would just like to understand how actual directors work with their composers to make the best soundtrack. The score is your film's hidden emotional underpinning. People may cry, laugh, feel displaced, alone, or even awkward as a result of it. Our mood is influenced by music. When it reaches our brain, it activates several pleasure centers, causing dopamine to be released and endorphins to be stimulated. Even the genre kind might have an effect on how you react.  Your writing will be the driving force behind the emotional palette, and each scene might elicit a distinct emotion. It is critical for a director or producer to grasp what a scene is attempting to convey. If it doesn't advance the plot or reveal anything about the character, it might not need to be in the script, no matter...

Text and Image

Image
What have you learned about Text & Image? I learned that artists utilize text to make a statement, and draw out a certain emotion that they want their audience to feel while looking at their art piece. These artists use letters, numbers, and words as their major modes of communication by employing text as the central communication vehicle in their artistic expression. The versatility and power of the written word encourage t he viewer to reflect, from projectors to paintings, sculptures to public murals. Clever wordplay, political activism, advertising subversion, and form appropriation are just a few of the features shared by great text art. Also, in more of a definition, The process of transmitting a message or notion through visuals and words is known as visual language. It necessitates a seamless blending of words and pictures. The remaining communication is ambiguous if the words or graphics are removed. Vocabulary, grammar, and syntax are all part of visual language. How ...

Layering Investigation

Image
1. What Have you learned about Layering? From what I learned, layering is the technique of putting different works of art on top of each other. For example, for painting, an artist might paint the background first with brush strokes going vertically. Then the next layering of what he paints, the brush strokes go horizontally or diagonal. This adds a little more texture to the painting and more depth. Layering is also a progressive build-up of light and/or dark values that takes multiple applications to reach the desired appearance. Typically, the first color will cover the largest area; subsequent color applications should be smaller while remaining within the perimeter of the first color. Also, different layers or objects can have different meanings to them. In film, Layering is the process of placing one piece on top of another so that we can experience them alone as well as collectively over time.
