How lighting affects your film- Blog Investigation and Work Log

Why lighting in film is important:

-Because it generates a visual mood, ambiance, and feeling of meaning for the audience, lighting is essential in film. Every stage of the cinematic process affects the lighting arrangement, whether it's outfitting a film set or blocking performers. The audience is directed where to focus by the lighting. The lighting configuration directs the viewer's attention to a specific performer, prop, or scene element. The psychology/emotions of characters is reflected in the lighting. To match a character's emotions, the amount, size, color, and harshness of light surrounding them can be modified. The film's genre is defined and supported by the lighting. The most effective tool for conveying mood is lighting. Film noir, for example, is noted for its distinctive lighting style, which features striking contrasts between light and dark, highly patterned shadows, and uncommon framing and composition choices.

Direction of lightsThe emotions of the scene will also be influenced by the direction of your lights. The arrangement of shadows is usually aided by the direction of light. A dark background can be created by using high-intensity lights. As a result, you'll have plenty of opportunities to experiment with shadow. This lighting style is used in a lot of horror movies. They can show someone lurking in the shadows or create a silhouette of the villain. This makes viewers feel anxious or uneasy in general. It can also give the photo more depth and mystery. Stop motion, on the other hand, necessitates a very precise light direction. As a result, natural illumination is usually not the ideal option for such projects. As you can see, each project necessitates a distinct approach.

Cinematic lighting- a cinema lighting method that goes beyond the traditional three-point lighting configuration to give the plot more drama, depth, and atmosphere. Lighting methods including bouncing light, filtering light and altering color temperatures are used in cinematic lighting.
