A look into Better Call Saul
Plot- Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould developed the American crime drama television series Better Call Saul. It's a prequel, sequel, and spin-off to Gilligan's earlier series, Breaking Bad. The series follows Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk), an idealistic lawyer and former con artist, as he transforms into a greedy criminal defense attorney known as Saul Goodman. It is set mostly in the early to the middle portion of the first decade of the 2000s in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The moral deterioration of retired cop Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), who becomes entangled with The Cartel and Gustavo Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) to support his granddaughter and her bereaved mother, is also depicted. Until their individual tales completely merge, Jimmy and Mike's meetings are rare.
Cinematography-
The cinematography of the show is one of the best parts in my opinion. Vince Gilligan who directs most of the episodes likes to use a lot of wide shots episcopally when they are shooting outdoors in the desert. It shows the vastness of the setting shows how alone our character Saul/Jimmy is. Most of the time he is trying to make it as a lawyer with no one on his side. These wide shots emulate this feeling. Also, he uses the rule of thirds a lot. This helps the audience focus on the actors more when they are on the lines, either on the left or the right.Lighting-
Vince Gilligan also uses lighting to help emulate the emotions of the characters and just to make the scene look nicer. Lighting plays an important role in character development and may quickly explain the difference between a hero and evil. When used correctly, simple brightness and shadow may make the spectator care deeply about the actors in a shot. If you portray your topic in bright and brilliant light, the audience will perceive them as good, clean, and positive characters in the tale. Shadowy forms might be read as ominous and mysterious. Also, Vince has praised the camera on the insider podcast for its ability to capture quality shots with NO artificial lighting because it has such a good sensor that can pick up huge amounts of natural light. This has undoubtedly led to more sparsely-lit shots that don’t have fake moonlight or some other
Review-
I have really loved all 5 seasons so far and season 6 is airing now. This show is a prequel to the show Breaking Bad and I think that this show is better. I mainly talked about the filming aspects of the show but the story is very captivating as well. I am always looking forward to the next episode. Sadly, this season will be its last, so I am going to enjoy it while I can.
