Intention Definition & Exploration of ideas: Careful analysis and attention have been given to finding an area of digital media to begin a focus on.
- My theme is Representations of Everyday Life
- I always wanted to do some sort of talk show or game show for a film. Something I could do with my friends and be able to do stupid things. What gave me this inspiration or idea was the show I watch called "The Eric Andre Show" The show is a fake talk show where literally anything happens. They get real guests to come onto the show and then Eric Andre messes with them the entire time. My plan was to do something like this but I thought it would be more interesting and different if I did a game show instead of a talk show.
Planning: What to do. Making and communicating divisions; how to implement them, and projecting their consequences.
- First I wrote down the different punishments that I would use for the Wheel of Pain. I had to think of things that I could actually do and weren't too expensive. Once I got the punishments I thought would be funny and possible, I went around to different stores to see if they has what I wanted. With knowing that everything I needed was possible to get I wrote out a script for the intro of the video. Then I started on the storyboard of the intro as well. I then went down to my basement to see where and how I could set up the cameras for the best look. Luckily I found a fold-out table and chairs, so I did not have to buy more things.
Editing: For editing, it was hard at first because I did not have a dual-screen setup for the two different camera angles. But once I got the two clips synced up it was pretty easy to switch between the two whenever I thought one of the angles would be better. I added title cards for each punishment because I thought it would be a smoother and cooler transition between each thing. I also tried to find fitting background music to fit the different punishments. I did put it off editing a few days because at the time I was very busy and other things, so I feel like I didn't put my all into it.
Producing: Creating what has been planned.
Evaluating: Evaluating the experience; testing what has been produced and assessing what has been done to determine if the problem has been solved as intended or the goals attained.
- The filming process did not go the way intended. First of all, I filmed this twice, but the first time something went wrong with the audio and the footage was unusable. So, I planned to film it again the next weekend which we did, but my friend Gavin who was supposed to be there was unable to make it. That was the last weekend that I could film, so I have to be in the video as the third contestant instead of being the host. It was very out of know where so I was very unprepared. It was hard to keep everything organized and on track because of having to participate. I also forgot to read many of the questions because I was no longer the host. I forgot that the actual viewer probably won't really know what was going on. It was still fun to do, but very unstructured. The overall goal of making a game show was achieved but just not in a very formal way. I also wished I had so more unique punishments. I feel like I also could have done better with the editing. I thought that a lot of things were funny, but I didn't really think about the audience. Looking back now I see there are many things I could have cut to make the video shorter.
Integrating: Integrating what is learned with knowledge from prior experience to improve an outcome or prepare for the future.
- For my next film I am filming a lot of it on my own. I may have my sister help film some shots I want to have movement, but for the most part, I will be on my own. This last film, it reminded me how difficult it can be to film with friends because you can easily get distracted. I learned a lot from using 2 cameras at the same time and syncing them up in premiere pro. I found out how to do it on my own and wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be, so I will take this into consideration in the future if I ever plan on doing something like this again.
